I've been waiting to try and write my own pattern for some time now, and this week I finally got around to doing it!
For the longest time I have been searching for a coffee sleeve pattern that I could make for some of my travel mugs that are thin and sometimes can be hard to grab because the heat radiates through them--I had bought some, but after making them, they just didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. So, I decided to make my own pattern to give a nice textured feel to the sleeve--introducing you to the Crochet Coffee Sleeve by CEDdesigns:
I have recently re-discoverd Vanna's Choice Yarn and thought this would be the perfect yarn for this project--and, was I right?! It worked up so nicely with the HDC Cross Stitches that I am now addicted to this yarn and I am restraining from going and buying every color I can get my hands on. I also think this yarn would be great for beanies!
This pattern is at an Easy level--you just need to know how to do a Cross Stitch, but if you don't I have included a link to a YouTube tutorial specifically for this project. All other stitches you need to know are Half-Double Crochet (HDC), Chain and slip stitch--very basic. The HDC is becoming one of my favorite stitches, it's quick to make yet still gives the project some substance to it, and isn't nearly as tight as a single crochet but not as loose as a double crochet.

Your coffee cup huggie is so cute and I love crocheting easy projects like that, plus you make the cup look pretty!

Thank you Julie! It is a plus that it pretties up the cup! If you make one, I'd love to see it!
DeleteI really do need to make one of these for my reusable Starbucks cup, and I really love the texture on yours! Thanks for the pattern!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Love the feedback--the texture is really fun to crochet! I'd love to see when you make it!
DeleteI love this coffee sleeve! I'm relatively new at crocheting and I'm not understanding the cross stitch. I've tried pulling up your you tube video but it's not available, do you have another video that I could watch? Thank so much!!
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and try again with the link above. For some reason, it got set to private.
DeleteI know this is an old post, but I’m hoping it isn’t closed. Do you have any issue with acrylic yarn against the hot cups? I have seen several patterns that use acrylic, but several others say cotton is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI personally haven't had any issues with acrylic yarn. You could try using the cotton but the measurements might not work out the best.
